|STOP PRESCRIBING ANTIBIOTICS|
According to the London Telegraph, doctors in Britain will soon be told to stop prescribing antibiotics for colds, sore throats and coughs. Why? Because overuse of the drugs is increasing the spread of deadly antibiotic-resistant super bacteria. The British government is actually creating a new government program that aims to diminish the use of the drugs.
As viruses cause colds, coughs, and flu, antibiotics are inappropriate to begin with. These illnesses should not be treated with antibiotics since antibbiotics only work on bacteria. Overuse of antibiotics has been blamed for the rise of drug-resistant tuberculosis, among other diseases. If antibiotic use is not curbed, doctors could run out of effective treatments.
Two of the common antibiotics that have become less effective due to antibiotic resistant bacteria are Ceflacor and Amoxicillin.
Another big problem with antibiotic misuse is the indiscriminate killing of good bacteria along with bad. This weakens the immune system overall which can be particularly serious for seniors and young children. This is partly why there has been such a huge increase in the extent of childhood asthma.
What should you do while you take an antibiotic? I always recommend dosing simultaneously with a high potency probiotic. This will help minimize the negative impact on the gut and immune system. Studies have shown that this can stop intestinal symptoms like diarrhea that can be so devastating on babies.
