FRUCTOSE MAKES YOU FATTER
J Clin Invest 2009 May;119(5):1322-1334
According to this study, consuming fructose-sweetened beverages (high fructose corn syrup HFCS) makes you fat around your waist, increases unhealthy lipids, and decreases your body’s sensitivity to insulin.

We’ve know for some time from work done in animals that HFCS induces dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. These researchers assessed these effects during sustained consumption in humans, overweight and obese subjects who consumed fructose-sweetened beverages providing 25% of energy requirements for 10 weeks. Abdominal weight gain was significantly increased in subjects consuming HFCS.

After meal triglycerides were increased specifically during fructose consumption. Similarly, markers of altered lipid metabolism significantly increased during consumption. In addition, fasting plasma glucose and insulin levels increased and insulin sensitivity decreased in subjects consuming fructose.

The only reason why the toxic sweetener HFCS is used in soda and other harmful consumer beverages is money. Corporate farmers receive huge tax breaks to grow too much genetically engineered corn which is turned into HFCS. So this stuff is cheap for the companies who make this swill but we pay for it in tax subsidies and in health care that stays silent about these issues.
